Biocore(I&II)是我們Department of Biology所有學生的共同必修課程
每堂課基本上是不同領域的老師來上相關課程
4:55-7:35pm(超詭異的時間><) 前面15分鐘是quiz 小考上禮拜的東西
course grade:30% quiz+70% final
算是loading還蠻重的課 要求你每個禮拜都要讀書 跟上進度
分數也是硬碰硬的來....

雖然第一堂課拿到syllabus就有心理準備要面對各式各樣不同的老師
但是今天的這個也太讓人ORZ了吧

前面15分鐘照例小考上次上課的內容
收完考卷 準備開始上課 老師第一句話是...
「我不會給妳們九十幾張slide的"垃圾"要妳們回家把它吃下去 再來考你們」
超嗆的一句話 把其他老師當白癡 把director當空氣就是了

一開始還以為這個看起來很年輕、貌似有別於一般老學究的老師
會有多特立獨行的授課方式 來讓我們耳目一新
是呀 結果是很獨特 獨特到不知道他在幹嘛 耳目一新到不知道他在講什麼
四、五個文件夾的powerpoint 起碼一百張的slide
通通都是「這個太簡單了 跳過」、「這個妳們知道了 跳過」
原本應該上到7:35的課 他跳一跳六點半就結束了....
而且重點是我什麼都沒學到 一整個很想罵髒話

但是最圈叉(髒話自行填空)還不是亂上
是美其名「不給吃垃圾考試」而是「讓我們自己去學習」出了一份讓所有人人仰馬翻的作業

Step 1:
Pick a protein from the B. anthrasis proteome file on blackboard.
OR
If you are feeling like getting it strait from the source get a Bacillus anthrasis
protein sequence from NCBI or Swiss-Prot / TrEMBL ...
(* pick one less than 500 amino acids, this will make the servers run much faster)
(** to make it more fun you might pick a protein of unknown function)
Step 2:
Can you tell me its fold, domain structure, function, etc, by looking at the sequence on any of the following sites (or by using BLAST or PSIBLAST, Pfam, COG, etc). Explore the resources on the we to see what you can find out about this protein.
Try Pfam, NCBI, Swiss-Prot, and then try these one or more of these sites:
(for most of them you’ll have to cut and paste the protein sequence into the CORRECT part of the website)

Step 3:
Draw me a little (use less than 1/4 of a page) diagram of the domains you find. Describe which server you found information on and what you found. If possible tell me what the fold or function of one or more of the domains in your protein (incidentally you might pick a single domain protein, or one that gets no hits by any server). If you picked an unknown protein and found no hits then describe why you think there are no hits / no information about this protein (try at least 2 servers if you find this to be the case).

還說Do not spend more than 2 hours on this, my intention is for you to familiarize yourself with a handful of very useful servers, not write a novella on a protein OR waste your week.
